This
is an exciting issue at Vette
Vues Magazine, as we
are celebrating our 39th
anniversary, making this
our 481st issue.
We are proud of our record of continuous monthly publication.
We have seen the economy go up and down more
than once, but the one thing remains the same, our love,
admiration and dedication to our fiberglass friends.
June 1972, marked the debut of Vette Vues Magazine.
Mr. James Prather, founder,
produced it on a hand-cranked mimeograph machine
in his basement. The inaugural issue focused on the need for Corvette
classified ads to serve the new Corvette community. Based in Georgia,
it started out as a newsletter. It was extremely successful, and by
December, it became a magazine. In December 1975, Vette
Vues had its
first color cover.
In May of 1981, Mr. Prather came out with a collector
book entitled the Best
of Vette Vues Magazine.
In May 1997, Mr. Prather retired and sold the magazine
to its current owners,
William and Bonnie Wolf. The headquarters
was moved to Florida, where it
is today. Later their son, William Wolf IV
became a co-owner.
Vette Vues Magazine has
evolved from those early
years, but it continues to remain
dedicated to the Corvette Enthusiasts.
As the hobby changed, so did advertising. Commercial
vendors came along, producing
reproduction products for the aging
Corvettes. Catalog companies formed
to fill the needs of the new hobbyist and
Corvette restoration shops sprung up.
We are especially thankful to our advertisers
and proud to say that many of them
have been with us since the very beginning.
As the hobby grew, new shows started up.
Vette Vues
Magazine was there to
cover them. It was not long and
articles were added.
William Landis was Vette Vues
first columnist, starting in 1974 with his
column, “Model Scene”, and he still contributes
today. Alan Kaplan has been with
Vette Vues for
years with his column “Factory
Facts”. Kenneth Kayser goes back
a long way with his “Fuel Injections”
series, as well as other articles
and now with his “Fifty Seven Years Ago” column.
Wayne Scraba is another regular contributor who readers look forward to
reading, as he helps to fix their problems. Everyone enjoys Wayne
Ellwood’s Corvette features as well his incredible knowledge of
historic racing. David Estes,
Tom Fielitz, Steve Robertson brings us outstanding coverage
of the current races as well as cover many events. We also
get valuable tech articles from John Gunnell. I certainly want to
mention Ladd B. Chase for his
diligent contribution to our “Rear Vues” column.
Moreover, we want to honor and credit Jim Prather, founder of Vette
Vues and continuing
contributor for “Toy Vues” as well as many other
articles throughout the year. Vette
Vues also presents
articles show casing
the most up-to-date developments in Corvette with the latest press
releases from Chevrolet.
This month I am thrilled to welcome a new contributor to
our group of talented
writers, Chris Petris. When you read
his first article in this issue, you will see that
he comes to use with great experience!
In June of 2007, Vette
Vues Magazine came
out with the Best
of Vette Vues Magazine, Thirty-Fifth
Anniversary, and a
sequel to the first
edition Mr. Prather had presented in 1981.
In October 2009, Vette
Vues Magazine acquired
the Corvette/Chevy
Expo in Houston, Texas from founders Don &
Diane Cooper. Their first production of this great event was in March
2010. That was the 32nd annual
event and held at the George Brown Convention
Center in downtown Houston.
Vette
Vues success is
contributed to our writers, advertisers and readers.
What a perfect team!
We feel honored to have the
opportunity to continue to bring
you Vette Vues
Magazine
on a monthly basis.
Thank you, for this opportunity to
celebrate this milestone of
39 years with you.
